I. Suresh sold the shirt at Rs 500. He gains 20%. Find the cost price of the shirt?

Solution:

Given,
Suresh sold the shirt at= Rs 500
He gains=20%
We know that cost price=[100/(100+ profit%)]. selling price
The cost price of the shirt=[100/(100 + 20)] 500
=[100/120] 500
=5/6 × 500
=416.66
Hence, the Cost price of the shirt is Rs 416.66.


II. By selling two toys each for Rs 500 each; a shopkeeper gains 10 percent on one toy and loses 10 percent on the other. Find the cost price of each toy?

Solution:

Given,
The selling price of each toy=Rs 500
The shopkeeper gains=10%
we know that cost price=[100/(100+ profit%)]. selling price
Cost price=[100/(100 + 10)]. 500
=[100/110]. 500
=454.54
loss=10%
Cost price=[100/(100- loss%)]. selling price
=[100/(100 – 10)]. 500
=[100/90].500
=555.55


III. By selling a table for Rs 5,350, a trader gains 10% and losses 10%. Find his overall gain or loss?

Solution:

Given,
The selling price of the table=Rs 5350
Gain=10%
We know that Cost price=[100/(100+profit%)]. selling price
=[100/(100+10)]. 5350
=[100/110]. 5350
=53500/11
=4863.63
Loss=10%
We know that Cost price=[100/(100-loss%)]. selling price
=[100/(100-10)]. 5350
=[100/90]. 5350
=53500/9
=5944.44
To find overall gain or loss, we need to find the combined cost price and selling price.
The total cost price of two tables=Rs 4863.63 + 5944.44
=10808.07
The selling price of two tables=Rs 5350 + Rs 5350
=Rs 10700
Here selling price is less than the cost price, Loss occurs.
Loss=cost price- selling price
=10808-10700
=108
Hence, By selling a table the trader losses Rs 108.


IV. By selling an article for Rs 5000 the trader gains 15%. Find the cost price of the article?

Solution:

Given,
The selling price of an article =Rs 5000
A trader gains=15%
We know that Cost price=[100/(100+profit%)]. selling price
=[100/(100+15)]. 5000
=[100/115]. 5000
=4347.82
Therefore, the cost price of an article is Rs 4347.82.


V. By selling an article for Rs 675, a person loses equal to 1/3 of its selling price. Find the i)cost price of the article?
ii) Find the profit percent or loss percent, if the same article is sold for 1225?

Solution:

Given,
The selling price of an article=Rs 675
loss=1/3(s.p)
=1/3(675)
=225
i) The cost price of an article=Sellingprice + loss
=675+225
=900
Hence, the cost price of an article is Rs 900.
ii)Selling price=Rs 1225
Cost price=Rs 900
Profit=1225-900=325
Profit%=profit/c.p × 100
=325/900 × 100
=36.11
Hence, the profit percentage is 36.11%.


Vi. An article bought for Rs 650 is sold for Rs 750. The second article bought for Rs 595 is sold for Rs 459 and the third article bought for Rs 715 is sold for Rs 885. Find the total cost price of all three articles and profit percentage?

Solution:

Given,
C. P for the 1st article = 650 rupees
S. P for the first article = 750 rupees
C. P<S.P
thus, profit=S.P-C. P
P=750-650
P=100 rupees
C. P of the second article = 595 rupees
S. P of the second article = 459 rupees
C. P>S.P
thus, loss
L=C.P-S. P
L=595-459
L=136 rupees
C. P of the third article = 715 rupees
S. P of the third article = 885 rupees
C. P<S.P
thus, profit
P=S.P-C. P
P=885-715
P=170 rupees
Total C. P of all three articles = 650+595+715=1960 rupees
Total S.P of all three articles = 750+459+885=2094 rupees
hence, C. P<S.P
Thus, Profit=S.P-C. P
P=2094-1960
P=134 rupees
We know that Profit%=profit/C.P×100
P%=134/1960×100
P%=6.83%
Hence, the cost price of the three articles is Rs 1960 and the profit percentage is 6.83%.


Vii. Articles bought at 5 for Rs400 are sold at 4 for Rs 500, find
(i) The cost-price of one article
(ii) The cost price of 10 articles

Solution:

Given,
The cost price of 5 articles=Rs 400
The selling price of 4 articles=Rs 500
i) The cost-price of one article=Rs 400/5=80
ii) The cost price of 10 articles=10 × 80=800


Viii. If the selling price of 7 articles is equal to the cost price of 8 articles, find the profit or loss percent?

Solution:

Let the cost price be x
SP of 7 articles =CP of 8 articles
SP of 1 article =8x/7
since SP>CP, we know that there is a profit.
Profit%=sp-cp/cp × 100
=8x/7-x/x .100
=8/7 × 100
=114.28
Hence, The profit percentage is 114%.


Ix. Pankaj bought 6 erasers for Rs 5 and sells 5 erasers for Rs 6. What is the gain percent?

Solution:

Given,
The cost price of 6 erasers=Rs 5
The selling price of 5 erasers=Rs 6
The cost price of 1 eraser=Rs 5/6
The selling price of 1 eraser=Rs 6/5
Gain=Selling price – cost price
=6/5 – 5/6
=36- 25/30
=11/30
Gain%=11/30/5/6 .100
=11/30.6/5.100
=(100.6.11)/150
=44%
Hence, the Gain percentage is 44%.


X. Find the cost price if i)selling price=Rs 380, and gain=5%
ii) Selling price=Rs 120, and loss=10%

Solution:

Given,
selling price=Rs 380, and gain=5%
i) We know that Cost price=[100/(100+profit%)]. selling price.
=[100/(100 + 5)]. 380
=[100/105].380
=361.90
Hence, the cost price is Rs 361.90.
ii) Selling price=Rs 120, and loss=10%
we know that cost price=[100/(100-loss%)]. s.p
=[100/(100-10)]. 120
=[100/90]. 120
=133.33
Hence, the cost price is Rs 133.33.
