Use of Decimal in Measuring the Mass

To measure something we need a system of units. The decimal metric system is a system of units in which the multiples or submultiples of the unit of measurement are interrelated by multiples. The unit for measuring mass is the gram, kilogram, centigram, decigram, milligram, and so on.

To convert an amount into the decimal form, the amount will be divided 10 times as many times as the rows that have to be climbed. Measurement of Mass using Decimals Examples

Let us discuss the use of decimals in measuring the mass by solving the problems given below.

Example 1.
Convert 48 kg 100 g into kilograms in decimal form
Solution:
Convert from grams into kilograms in the decimal form.
As we know that
1000 grams = 1 kilogram or 1000g = 1kg
So, 1 gram is one thousandths of a kilogram
1g= 1/ 1000kg = 0.001 kg
100g = 100/1000 =0.100 kg
48 kg 100 g = 48. 100 kg
Thus 48 kg 100 g into kilograms in decimal form is 48.100 kg.

Example 2.
Convert 70kg 48g into kilograms in the decimal form
Solution:
Convert from grams into kilograms in the decimal form.
As we know that
1000 grams = 1 kilogram or 1000g = 1kg
So, 1 gram is one thousandths of a kilogram
1g= 1/ 1000kg = 0.001 kg
48g= 48/1000 = 0.048 kg
70kg 48g = 70.048 kilograms
Therefore, 70kg 48g into kilograms in the decimal form is 70.048 kilograms

Example 3.
Convert 2kg 200g into kilograms in decimal form
Solution:
Convert from grams into kilograms in the decimal form.
As we know that
1000 grams = 1 kilogram or 1000g = 1kg
So, 1 gram is one thousandths of a kilogram
1g= 1/ 1000kg = 0.001 kg
100g = 100/1000 =0.100 kg
200g = 200/1000 = 0.200 kg
2kg 200g = 2.200 kilograms
Hence, 2kg 200g into kilograms in decimal form is 2.200 kilograms

Example 4.
Convert 8kg 32g into kilograms in the decimal form
Solution:
Convert from grams into kilograms in the decimal form.
As we know that
1000 grams = 1 kilogram or 1000g = 1kg
So, 1 gram is one thousandths of a kilogram
1g= 1/ 1000kg = 0.001 kg
32g = 32/1000= 0.032kg
8kg 32g = 8.032kg
Thus 8kg 32g into kilograms in the decimal form is 8.032kg.

Example 5.
Convert 10000grams into kilograms in decimal form
Solution:
Convert from grams into kilograms in the decimal form.
1000 grams = 1 kilograms
1g = 1/1000 = 0.001 kilograms
10000grams = 10 kg
10 kg = 0.010 kg
Thus 10000grams into kilograms in decimal form is 0.010 kg.
