Distance Unit Conversions

Go through the following quick unit conversions of distance and change between one unit to another unit easily. They are as under

  • 1 km = 1000 meters
  • 1 meter = 0.001 km
  • 1 meter = 100 cm
  • 1 cm = 0.01 meters
  • 1 kilometer = 100000 centimeters
  • 1000 cm = 0.01 km
  • 1 cm = 0.00001 km

Using Decimals in Measuring Distance Examples

Example 1.
Convert 12km 270m into kilometres in the decimal form
Solution:
We have to convert from meters to kilometers
As we already know that
1000metres = 1 kilometre or 1000m = km
So, 1m is one thousandths of a km
1m = 1/1000km = 0.001km
270m = 270/1000km = 0.270 km
12km 270m = 12.270km
Thus 12km 270m into kilometers in the decimal form is 12.270 km.

Example 2.
Convert 72km 32m into kilometres in the decimal form
Solution:
We have to convert from meters to kilometers
As we already know that
1000metres = 1 kilometre or 1000m = km
So, 1m is one thousandths of a km
1m = 1/1000km = 0.001km
32m = 32/1000 = 0.032 km
72km 32m = 72.032km
Thus 72km 32m into kilometers in the decimal form is 72.032 km.

Example 3.
Convert 98km 203m into kilometres in the decimal form
Solution:
As we already know that
1000 metres = 1 kilometre or 1000m = km
So, 1m is one thousandths of a km
1m = 1/1000km = 0.001km
203m = 203/1000 = 0.203
98km 203m = 98.203km
Thus 98km 203m into kilometers in the decimal form is 98.203km.

Example 4.
Convert 43km 2m into kilometres in the decimal form.
Solution:
As we already know that
1000metres = 1 kilometre or 1000m = km
So, 1m is one thousandths of a km
1m = 1/1000km = 0.001km
2m = 2/1000 = 0.002
43km 2m = 43.002 km
Therefore 43km 2m into kilometers in the decimal form is 43.002 km

Example 5.
Convert 432km 100m into kilometers in the decimal form.
Solution:
As we already know that
1000metres = 1 kilometre or 1000m = km
So, 1m is one thousandths of a km
1m = 1/1000km = 0.001km
100m = 100/1000 = 0.100km
432km100m = 432.100km
Thus 432km 100m into kilometers in the decimal form is 432.100km
