Addendum and Sum Word Problems Worksheet

Problem 1:
Ravi scored 14 runs and Soheal scored 12 runs. How many runs did they score together?

Solution:

As given in the question,
No of runs scored by Ravi = 14
No of runs scored by Soheal = 12
Total number of runs scored by both of them = 14 + 12 = 26
Therefore, they both scored 26 runs
Hence, the final solution is 26 runs

Question 2:
In a library, there were 345 English books and 278 Hindi books. So altogether how many books are there in total?

Solution:

As given in the question,
No of English Books in library = 345
No of Hindi Books in library = 278
Total number of books in library = 345 + 278 = 623
Therefore, the total number of books in the library are 623
Hence, the final solution is 623 books

Question 3:
Louse has 4 apples and Tom has 2 apples. How many apples do they have altogether?

Solution:

As given in the question,
No of apples Louse has = 4
No of apples Tom has = 2
Total number of apples they together have = 4 + 2 = 6
Therefore, Louse and Tom together have apples = 6
Hence, the final solution is 6 apples

Question 4:

Solve the equation by arranging in the columns and find the sum – 235786 + 421012 + 164320?

Solution:

As given in the question,
The equation is 235786 + 421012 + 164320
We have to arrange in columns and find the sum, we get the values as
Ones Place – 6 + 2 + 0 = 8
Tens Place – 8 + 1 + 2 = 11 , 1 is carried for next number
Hundreds Place – 7 + 0 + 3 = 10, as 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 11 and again 1 is carried
Thousands Place – 5 + 1 + 4 = 10, as 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 11 and again 1 is carried
Ten Thousands Place – 3 + 2 + 6 = 11, as 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 12 and again 1 is carried
Lakhs Place – 2 + 4 + 1 = 7, 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 8
Hence, the final number is 821118

Question 5:

Solve the equation by arranging in the columns and find the sum – 246789 + 279874 + 200092?

Solution:

As given in the question,

The equation is 246789 + 279874 + 200092
We have to arrange in columns and find the sum, we get the values as
Ones Place – 2 + 4 + 9 = 15, 1 is carried for next number
Tens Place – 8 + 7 + 9 = 24, as 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 25 and again 2 is carried
Hundreds Place – 7 + 8 + 0 = 15, as 2 is carried from previous number i.e., 17 and again 1 is carried
Thousands Place – 6 + 9 + 0 = 15, as 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 16 and again 1 is carried
Ten Thousands Place – 4 + 7 + 0 = 11, as 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 12 and again 1 is carried
Lakhs Place – 2 + 2 + 2 = 6, as 1 is carried from previous number i.e., 7
Hence, the final number is 726755

Question 6:

Fill in the blanks – 234563 + 123725 = 123725 + …………….. = ……………..?

Solution:

As given in the question,
The equation is 234563 + 123725 = 123725 + …………….. = ……………..
We know that a+b = b+a,
As 234563 + 123725, then 123725 + 234563
If we add both the numbers, then the result value is 358288
Hence, the result is 234563 and 358288

Question 7:

Fill in the blanks – 121215 + 346780 + 123442 = 123442 + …………….. + 346780 = ……………..?

Solution:

As given in the question,
The equation is 121215 + 346780 + 123442 = 123442 + …………….. + 346780 = ……………..
We know that a+b+c = b+c+a = c+a+b
As 121215 + 346780 + 123442, then 123442 + …………….. + 346780
The missing addend is 121215
If we add the three values, then the result is 591437

Question 8:

Samrat has 6 red pens and 4 green pens. How many pens does Samrat have in all?

Solution:

As given in the question,
No of red pens Samrat has = 6
No of green pens Samrat has = 4
Total no of pens, Samrat have = 6 + 4 =10
Hence, the final solution is 10 pens

Question 9:

Sima has 8 books with her and her father gave her 4 more books. How many does she have in total?

Solution:
