Money Word Problems with Solutions

Consider some of the examples of word problems on the addition of money.

Example 1:
Add the amounts of Rs. 15.25 and Rs. 50.10 by using both methods.
Solution:
Method 1
(with conversion into paise):
Amounts of rupees to be added are converted into paisa.
Multiply 100 with the number of rs.
Rs. 15.25 = 15.25 ×100=1525 p
Rs. 50.10 = 50.10×100=5010 p
Now add the amounts of paise
1  5  2  5 p
+5  0  1  0  p
6 5  3  5     p
6535 p is converted to rupees by placing a dot after two digits from the right of the number.
Therefore, the addition of Rs 15.25 and Rs 50.10 is Rs 65.35.
Method 2(Without Conversion):
Arrange rupees and paise in different columns
Arrange all dots carefully in a line.
Add the given amount of money and the sum is placed in the corresponding columns.
Rs        P
1   5 .   2   5
+5   0 .  1   0
  6  5  .   3   5
Therefore the addition of 15.25 and 50.10 is 65.35
