1. During the field trip to the zoo, the class was divided into 8 groups of 4. How many students are there in the class?

Solution:

Given

Number of groups = 4

Number of students in each group = 8

Total number of students in the class = Number of groups * Number of students in each group

= 4 * 8

= 32

Hence, the total number of students in the class = 32


2. Saritha has a bag that consists of 36 apples. She wants to make pies with that apples and she needs 6 apples to make one pie. How many pies she can make?

Solution:

Given

Number of apples = 36

Number of apples needed to make 1 pie = 6

Number of pies she can make = Number of apples ÷ Number of apples needed to make 1 pie

= 36 ÷ 6

= 6 pies

Hence, the Number of pies she can make with 36 apples = 6.


3. If the cost of 1 sarees is 200. Find the cost of 12 sarees?

Solution:

Given

Cost of 1 sarees = 200

Number of sarees = 12

Cost of 12 sarees= Cost of 1 saree * number of sarees

= 200 * 12

= 2400

Hence, Cost of 12 sarees = 2400


4. Prize money of Rs.7700 was equally distributed among 11 members. How much money will each get?

Solution:

Given

Total prize money = 7700

Number of players = 11

Amount of money each will get = Total prize money ÷ Number of players

= 7700 ÷ 11

= 700

Hence, Each player will get Rs 700.


5. Each page of a book has 134 words. The book consists of 800 pages. How many words are there in the book?

Solution:

Given

Number of words in each page = 134

Number of pages in a book = 800

Number of words in the book = Number of words in each page * Number of pages in a book

= 134 * 800

= 107200

Hence, Total number of words in the book = 107200.


6. A shopkeeper purchases 329 watches for Rs. 836647. what is the cost of each watch?

Solution:

Given

Number of watches  = 329

Cost of 329 watches = Rs.836647

cost of each watch = Cost of 329 watches ÷ Number of watches

= 836647 ÷ 329

= 2543

Hence cost of each watch = 2543


7. The product of two numbers is 4368. If one of the numbers is 78. Find the other number.

Solution:

Given

Let a and b are two numbers, a = 78

Product of two numbers = 4368

Other number, b = ?

a * b = 4368

78 * b = 4368

b = 4368 ÷ 78

= 56

Hence, the other number is 56.


8. 836 people are watching a movie in a hall. if the hall consists of 44 rows. How many persons will sit in each row?

Solution:

Given,

Number of people = 836

Number of rows = 44

Number of persons in each row = number of people ÷ Number of rows

= 836 ÷ 44

= 19

Hence, Number of persons in each row = 19


9. Raman has Rs.1000 with him. He buys petrol of cost Rs.47 per litre. How many litres of petrol he can buy?

Solution:

Given

Total amount = 1000

Cost of petrol per litre = 47

Litres of petrol he can buy = Total amount ÷ cost of petrol per litre

= 1000 ÷ 47

= 21

Hence, he can buy 21 litres of petrol.


10. Ravi wanted to plant 458 apple trees as 15 trees in a row. How many rows can be planted? How many trees would be left?

Solution:

Given

Number of apple trees = 458

Number of plants in a row = 15

Number of rows = Number of apple trees ÷ Number of plants in a row

= 458 ÷ 15

=30

Number of trees in 30 rows = 15 * 30 = 450

Number of plants left = 458-450 = 8


11. In series of books, each book has 56 pages.

a) Mathew read 6 books

b) lily read 4 books

How many pages does both of them together read?

Solution:

Given

Number of pages in each book = 56

a) Number of books read by Matthew = 6

Number of pages read by Matthew = Number of books read by Matthew * Number of pages in each book

= 6 * 56

=336

b) Number of books read by lily = 6

Number of pages read by lily = Number of books read by lily * Number of pages in each book

= 4 * 56

=224

Hence Number of pages read by Matthew = 336

Number of pages read by lily = 224

Number of pages read by both of them = 336 + 224 = 560.


12. A farmer has 120 eggs. He makes up 5 boxes of 12 eggs and the rest of the eggs he puts into boxes of 6. How many boxes of 6 does he fill?

Solution:

Given

Total number of eggs = 120

Number of boxes = 5

Number of eggs = 12

Number of eggs packed = number of boxes * Number of eggs

= 5 * 12

= 60

Number of eggs remained = Total number of eggs – Number of eggs packed

= 120 – 60

= 60

Each box consists of = 6 eggs

Number of boxes of 6 = Number of eggs remained ÷ 6

= 60 ÷6

= 10

Therefore, he packed 10 boxes of 6 eggs.
